Welcome to Duvall's
Main Street Construction Website
In 2008 the City of Duvall will be making major improvements to the section of Main Street (State Route 203) that runs through Historic Duvall - the long-standing heart of the city. The project aims to revitalize this historic city center through infrastructure improvements and a variety of feature enhancements that will showcase Historic Duvall and make it more appealing to businesses and pedestrians.
Road Improvements
Main Street will remain a two-lane road with parallel on-street parking, wide sidewalks, and historic buildings. Planned utility improvements include installing new water and stormwater lines, and slip lining or lining the sewer. Fire flow and water and sewer line capacity will be increased. All of these structural improvements combine to allow for additional growth in the Historic Duvall area.
A primary goal of the Main Street Redevelopment Project is to make this part of town a safe and more pedestrian-oriented city center. There are currently more than 13,000 vehicles a day on Main Street, making crossing the street or having a shopping experience difficult. The project will add concrete crossings and curb extensions to all intersections, shortening the distance pedestrians have to be in the travel lanes. The project will also reduce vehicle speeds with the installation of a low center median, which will standardize the travel lanes creating a consistent lane which in turn will cause vehicles to slow down. New sidewalks, tree grates, road and pedestrian lighting, small public spaces, public art, and other public amenities will make Historic Duvall a more inviting place for both businesses and pedestrians alike.

Utility Improvements
In addition to the sewer, water, and storm drainage improvements the project will be undergrounding the power, telephone, and cable utility lines. The impact of this alone will be a dramatic change and improvement to the Main Street corridor.
Public Art Update
Public art displays play a vital role in the project. There will be ten sets of cedar planks, each 18 feet tall by 1 1/2 feet wide displayed on light and / or decorative poles on Main Street. The city is contracting with five artists to carve the cedar planks. Each artist will carve two sets. Selected artists are: Chiaki Takonohara, Dan Cautrell, Bruce Edwards, Cliff Nichols, and Bob Antone.
The city is also contracting with three artists to design benches with an historic Duvall theme. These images will be laser cut onto the back of the benches. Selected artists are: Sam Matson, Kathryn Ackley, and Joe Lee Davidson.
This project is scheduled to begin construction in the summer of 2008 and should take approximately 10 months to complete.
Project Partners
The City worked with KPG on the engineering design of the roadway. KPG, together with the Pomegranate Center, worked with a Citizens Advisory Group (CAG) on the design of the pedestrian amenities associated with the road project as well as incorporating art into this monumental public project. The CAG drew upon the Snoqualmie River, which forms the city's western boundary, as a subtle design element that will be reflected in the median design, the concrete crossing / public space art, tree grates, and public art.
