Paint the Sidewalks

The August 16th Paint the Sidewalks Project was a success! We had about 200 squares painted that day with local artists continuing to paint squares as the weather permits. It was exciting to see the streets of historic Duvall filled with people on a hot and sunny Saturday morning. We had good press coverage before the event with both ads and articles in the River Current News and the Woodinville Weekly. We were also a pick of the week from the Seattle Times. There was also great coverage of the results in The River Current News and the Valley View. Let’s hope that translates to more people coming to historic Duvall to shop and dine!

Hundreds of people braved the cold, wind, and rain to take part in the fun on Saturday March 14th. The equipment seemed to be just the right size for the pint sized construction workers. Around 250 hard hats, stickers, buckets, yo-yos, and other items were handed out to every child, and some adults that came down. T Tator Tot the Clown and her face painting assistant were a crowd pleaser and kept very busy handing out balloon animals and stickers. Kids and parents had the chance to sit in a few different machines including a grader, excavator, and backhoe. After testing out the equipment many of the kids visited the Northwest Arts Center to decorate their hard hats and warm up. The sand pile also was fairly popular with a number of kids filling and dumping their buckets despite the wet weather.
The Duvall Rotary Club, with equipment donated by GSR, kept busy by cranking out popcorn and cotton candy for everyone. Approximately $133 was raised for Hopelink through donations. The Duvall Chamber of Commerce had over a dozen items donated by local businesses to raffle off. They sold around 200 tickets with proceeds going to both Hopelink and the Duvall Historical Society.
This was a great event made possible through generous donations of time and materials from local organizations, school groups and businesses. The city deeply appreciates all the volunteers giving up part of their Saturday and all of the different businesses who donated items to use, hand out, or raffle.
