3rd Avenue Water main Replacement Project
Stage: Building
Estimated Construction Start: April 2010
Estimated Duration: 90 working days

Preliminary Construction Schedule

3rd Avenue Water main Replacement Project
This project will replace approximately 3400 linear feet of existing 10” asbestos concrete water main with a new 12” ductile iron main.

The project includes tree removal, trail removal, grading, rockery placement, trail relocation, and restoration to accommodate the water main installation.

The north end of the project is at NE Stephens Street and it extends south within the 3rd Avenue NE ROW to NE 144th Pl. The majority of the project is located within the east half of the 3rd Avenue NE ROW.

This water main is one of the City’s two “Feeder” mains. It is an integral portion of the City’s system capable of supplying the western portion of the City with water.

The existing 10” was installed in 1962 and is made of asbestos concrete, a substandard material extremely susceptible to cracking and breaking in the best conditions.

Replacing the current substandard line with a new 12” ductile iron pipe will improve the system’s integrity and capacity. This project was identified in the 2004 Comprehensive Plan as a high priority water project because of the substandard undersized main and the lack of valves required for isolation and repair.
