COMMUNITY SERVICES PROGRAM
The services listed on this page are services that our department is determined to be able to provide our customers, the citizens of Duvall and Carnation. We hope this increases your awareness of services we offer. If you ever have any questions or comments about the department you may call my office. Concealed Pistol License (CPL) and Fingerprinting
The Duvall-Carnation Police Department provides these "courtesy" services to residents of the cities of Duvall and Carnation only. We also provide fingerprinting services for the Riverview School District, but an applicant must have an authorization form from the District and identification showing a current address or we will not be able to provide the service.

Effective October 15, 2008 our fingerprinting service will be BY APPOINTMENT ONLY on Tuesdays and Thursdays. We allow for three appointments in the morning and three in the afternoon, each day. Exceptions may occur occasionally to accommodate an employee vacation or special need.

All applicants must have a valid driver's license or state identification card that shows his/her current Duvall or Carnation address. If you live in Duvall or Carnation but outside of the city limits, you must go through the county for CPL and fingerprinting services (see below for more info).

Fingerprinting services for identification purposes and adoptions for our residents are free of charge. New/first-time CPLs require fingerprinting (therefore an appointment). Fees for this licensing are as follows:

  • New License Application $55.25
  • Current Renewal $32.00
    (must have old CPL and be within 90 days of the current expiration date)
  • Late Renewal (outside the 90 days) $42.00
  • Replacement (lost or damaged) $10.00

We accept cash, local checks and money orders only for these fees.

County Residents - for general services inquiries please call the King County Sheriff's Office information number at: 206-296-5020 or go to their website for details regarding these and other services.

Fingerprinting and CPL services are available for county residents at KCSO's Kenmore facility located at 18118-73rd Ave NE - please call or see website FIRST for the hours these services are available.

CPL renewals (no fingerprinting services) are available through the Cottage Lake Community Service Center, located at 19145 NE Woodinville-Duvall Road (at Avondale). House Check Service
While you are out of town, you can request our department to check your residence while you are away. Key Benefits: Home is monitored while you are away, Police Officers are aware the house should be empty and are made aware to keep an extra eye out for any suspicious activity, and peace of mind while you are away.

Car Lock Out Service
If you are locked out of your car we will try to get you back in and on the road. Just call our department. Key Benefits: Free and you get back on the road.

Block Watch Program
Block Watch is specifically designed to help residents help themselves and their neighbors keep their community safer by working with each other. The Department has a specially trained Crime Prevention Officer who will help organize and present techniques on crime reduction in your neighborhood. Key Benefits: Home security checks, types of alarms, locks, and lighting, and better connection with the police department when voicing concerns.

Crime Prevention Program
As a it is our duty to educate the citizens of Duvall and Carnation on appropriate measures for the prevention of crime in their homes, businesses, and on the street. Some of the various programs offered are as follows:

  • Home Security Checks: We tour the home with the homeowner and address issues such as how to make your home less attractive to a burglar; how to feel safer in your home; types of alarms, locks, and lighting; and home security through environmental design.


  • Business: Through business contacts and the Duvall Chamber of Commerce we provide information on the following: Check fraud and how to spot a forged check; Shoplifting and employee theft; How to handle violence in the workplace; and Business security through environmental design.


  • Personal Safety: We also address the individual by helping them to be more observant of their surroundings and be safety conscious by touching on how not to become a victim; parking lot safety; and safety while traveling.


  • Victim Follow-ups: We contact victims at their request and assist them in finding ways to prevent them from falling prey to another crime. Patrol officers can also generate crime prevention requests. We can then follow up to meet with victims.

    Our main role in crime prevention is to coordinate between the police department and the community to work together to deter crime in the Cities of Duvall and Carnation. Below is a list of links to various brochures that may help you in preventing crime in your own home or neighborhood.

    Duvall - Carnation Police Reserve Program
    All of the Reserve Officers at the Duvall - Carnation Police Department are volunteer. This is a non-profit and non-paid program which enables the Police Department to function as well as it does. Currently we have two (2) Reserve Police Officers working the streets.

    The Duvall - Carnation Police are always interested in interviewing potential reserve candidates. Click here for detailed description of the Reserve Program Requirements. If a reserve officer position interests you, please contact a Duvall - Carnation Police Officer for more information.

    D.A.R.E. Program
    Drug Abuse Resistance Education (D.A.R.E.) is a collaborative effort by DARE certified law enforcement officers, educators, students, parents, and the community to offer and educational program in the classroom to prevent or reduce drug abuse and violence among children and youth. The emphasis is to help students recognize and resist the many direct and subtle pressures that influence them to experiment with alcohol, tobacco, marijuana, inhalants, or other drugs, or to engage in violence.

    School Resource Officer Program
    Currently the Duvall - Carnation Police Department has one School Resource Officer that divides his time between the Tolt Middle School and Cedarcrest High School. School-based police officers prevent a substantial amount of school violence, have exceptionally positive relationships with students and educators, and improve the reporting of school crimes that otherwise may go unreported to police, according to the survey results.

    Police Explorers Program
    In 1996, the Duvall Police Department started a Law Enforcement Explorer Program for young adults between fourteen and twenty years of age. The intent of the Explorer Program is to educate and involve youth in police operations, to interest them in a possible law enforcement careers, and to build mutual understanding.

    The Duvall - Carnation Police Department does not have an active Explorer Program at this time. If you are interested in Explorers, please contact your local chapter of Boy Scouts of America.
