Are you ready to become more self-confident? Are you prepared to defend yourself if needed?

The Duvall-Carnation Police Department is now offering the nationally recognized women’s self defense course, R.A.D. or Rape Aggression Defense.

“I now have the confidence to defend myself”
- Patricia J.
"I never thought that I was that strong!”
- Dawn B.
“The R.A.D class is such a great opportunity for girls to learn important safety and defense skills, while also building self-confidence. The course allowed a group of girls to work together, learn about important issues that affect women every day, and become a stronger group mentally, emotionally, and physically. I would recommend this class for all girls, no matter what age!”
- Chelsea R.

The instructor, Shelley Olson, has been involved in this program since 2008, after getting nationally certified by R.A.D. Systems, through a course taught at the University of Iowa. She has taught over 150 students thus far and the number is continuing to grow.

The R.A.D. System is a detailed and comprehensive course for a woman that begins with crime prevention, risk reduction and avoidance while progressing on to the basics of self defense. This program is dedicated to teaching defensive concepts and techniques against various types of assault, but utilizing easy, effective and proven self defense tactics.

Space for this course is limited! To reserve a space or for questions, please contact: Shelley Olson

About the Instuctor

Shelley Olson has worked for the Duvall-Carnation Police Department since March 2003. In 2007, she took the R.A.D. class from another officer that was teaching in Duvall. After taking the class, she wanted to be more involved and be an instructor. In March of 2008, she attended the R.A.D. Systems of Self- Defense school at the University of Iowa, by the nationally recognized RAPE AGGRESSION DEFENSE SYSTEM. After completing the course, she came back and began teaching classes. Since 2008, Shelley has taught several classes to more than 100 young girls and women from this community.

“I believe that this program is essential for women and young girls. It’s remarkable how much a woman can accomplish when taught the correct technique. I hope to offer this course for years to come and looking forward to giving back to the community!”
